Spinal Decompression Therapy at Acker Chiropractic

If you’re experiencing persistent back and leg pain, or chronic neck and arm pain, spinal decompression may be an appropriate part of your treatment plan. At Acker Chiropractic, we use a specialized decompression table to provide controlled, gentle traction to the spine. Our goal is to help reduce stress on the spine, improve mobility, and support your body’s natural healing process.

How Spinal Decompression Works

Spinal decompression is performed on a specialized traction table while you lie comfortably on your back. A harness is placed around the appropriate area of your body, and the table gently applies a controlled pulling force to the spine.

Treatment consists of alternating periods of gentle traction and relaxation. Typically, the table will provide traction for approximately 30–40 seconds, followed by a 10–20 second rest period. This cycle is repeated throughout the session, which generally lasts approximately 20–30 minutes.

As your body becomes accustomed to the treatment, we may gradually adjust the amount of traction and treatment time based on your response and individual needs. Our goal is to make each session comfortable while providing an appropriate level of therapeutic traction.

Who May Benefit from Spinal Decompression?

Spinal decompression may be considered for some patients experiencing back or leg symptoms associated with conditions such as bulging, degenerative, or herniated discs. However, not every patient or condition is appropriate for decompression therapy.

That’s why we begin with a thorough evaluation of your symptoms, health history, spinal function, and individual goals. If we determine that decompression may be beneficial for you, it can be incorporated into a comprehensive treatment plan that may also include chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, stretching, strengthening exercises, and other therapies.

Your Comfort and Progress Matter

At Acker Chiropractic, we believe your treatment should be tailored to you. We’ll monitor how your body responds throughout the course of care and make adjustments to your treatment plan when appropriate.

Our goal is to provide a comfortable, supportive environment while helping you improve your movement and function and return to the activities you enjoy.
